my life is and will continue to be

  • Mood: my word for the day - delicious -

are you allowed to say that
a day was delicious??

if I am
then my yesterday was indeed
very delicious

it scares me a little when
everything seems to be perfect
and
keeps getting better

I'm going away for a few weeks
doing some "army training"
before the military sends me to
Afghanistan in early Feb

there are a lot of people worried
about me and the war

myself
I can't see anything go wrong
not the way my life is going recently

my life is
and will continue to be
delicious

for now
enjoy
smile

love you

I recall as a young man

  • Mood: loving life.....

well well well

here's just stuff
news if you will
a little bit about me

ever since I was a young lad
I've loved cars

I'm not too sure about the history
of the car at my right knee

but I can asure you -
it probably kept me well occupied

I'm not so young anymore
but I still love cars

I recall as a young man
out looking for a car with my Dad
we checked out the obvious
"The Mustang"
it's always been a favorite
so if you're stuck for something to get
me for next Christmas
here's a little hint....

for now
but not for long

I'm a pedestrian

my mind is in third gear trying to figure out
what my next ride will look like

stay tuned.....

smile
and enjoy life

live each day as though it was your last

  • Mood: with a big smile -

for some 26 years
I've been in the medical field
more if you consider my
very first job when I was 16 years old

been there at the end of life
I've seen the quality of life snatched away
and helped those, that forget what life is...
my mind spins with thoughts of
those who just toss it away,

my eyes tear for those who
do not care for themselves
.

I talk to many people in the run of a day
and today I came here to say

please

"live each day
as though it was your last"

no-one knows what rammora will bring
no-one can guarantee a tomorrow

or as wee Willy Wallace
put it
"every man dies,
not every man truly lives"

live your life
smile and enjoy the moment
for that moment, will surely be gone in a heart beat

smile my friends
it's all good

love you

...one of the best years I've ever had...

  • Mood: smiling from ear to ear ...

I often describe that,
as - my last life
and
this,
as,

"the absolute best"

2006
has all but come and gone,
in reflection
...one of the best years I've ever had...
I find it amazing how things can keep
getting better and better

here's a wee link to my
2006 - In Review

as for 2007 ?
one never knows what the future will bring
but
I don't fear it
and will run towards it
with the same attitude that has given me
all I want
and all I need

for now
I wish you nothing but the best
I pray that God gives you no more
than you can handle

bye for now

HAPPY NEW YEAR

  • Mood: smiling - enjoying life....

"life is what happens to you,
when you're busy making other plans"

John Lennon

hey folks
I've been off the net
for a few days

so I'm here to say
Hiya....

Christmas is coming fast
and I, like a lot of men
am not nearly ready
so I'll be bonding with all the
last minute guys at the mall, soon

the holidays
Christmas
New Years
family and friends
it's always a time for me
to reflect on life and all it has given me

I'm one lucky boy

I'll share a bit more - soon
for now though,
enjoy the holidays
enjoy your family
enjoy your friends

there's a tear in my eye
there's a smile on my face
yes - I'm happy - very very happy

Merry Christmas

to do what I absolutely love to do

  • Mood: pleased - proud - ready ...

wow
...what a week...
I've had a bit of an
upper respiratory thing
but much better now

in the middle of that I was on course,
an addiction services aftercare program
so that I can become a councelor
for those seeking recovery from addictions

step one is complete
I now throw my other foot out
and take the next step

the year draws to an end
and what a year it's been

I'm absolutely amazed
at the progress I've made this year

goals have come and gone
new ones are being developed

work is wonderful
life is terrific

and I'll say it one more time

the best part is,
not only being allowed
but being encouraged
to do what I absolutely love to do

I hope you enjoy the holidays
and have plans for the New Year

step up
enjoy life

smiling

  • Mood: enjoying the day ...

the best thing about
me starting a training plan
on Saturday is that
no matter what happens
Saturday is my day off

Today was a good run
21km - around the block
time??  1:56:02

it felt good
felt right

l received an e-mail this morning
these words were included
they are absolutely brilliant so I hope
you don't mind me quoting you "G"

"Remember, in our journey,
every mile is a memory!!
It is not a race!!"

she wasn't talking about running
rather life in general

well, I gotta go
a nice hot shower beckons

for now
enjoy your day
enjoy yourself

  • Mood: ready aye ready.....

Don't just say it
DO IT

I've been thinking about training for
next years marathons
Next Year cometh quickly

the first big yen is Boston
18 weeks away
I best get off the duff
and make my way to the start line

this link takes you to a few marathon
training plans
each 26 weeks long
I'll be working on the 3:30 marathon

Training Plan

my plan is to jump in at week 8
and see how things go

here's a wee picture of me
at the start of my training

to go back to Boston
what a wonderful thought

the stats say that only 2%
of the worlds popualtion
have ever finished a marathon
in 2007 I hope to be part of that stat

I'll be posting my progress here
as time marches along
time to hunker doon
and git tae it

I hope it takes you where you want to go

  • Mood: it's still a smile on my face

the 7th of Dec
seems a day of many colours

my anniversary in Canada
makes it a good day
43 years ago today

my brother - sister and I arrived
it's been a good life here
I'm sure Mom and Dad would agree

Di has a birthday so,
many happy returns !!!

G has picked up a marathon schedule
and will begin the run
I wish you well in your race
I hope it takes you where you want to go
(may the sun kiss your face
and the wind be at your back)

I was at the gym yesterday
got talking to a young lady
she reminded me that Boston
is up and coming
only 18 weeks away
seems I had better pick up
a marathon schedule soon myself

it's all about the journey
and on yours I wish you
warm sunny days
the scent of the flowers
and time to enjoy both

as always

simply a thing of beauty

  • Mood: it's with a smile

in retrospect
a good day by any measure

as I write I'm listening to
the new album that
The Beatles
have just released

"LOVE"
a Cirque du Soleil production

I saw a Cirque du Soleil show
a few years ago while I was in Vegas
to run in the marathon,
it was simply a thing of beauty...
and so was the show
(sorry couldn't resist)

anyways
once again
music soothes the soul

it's with a smile
that I say
ni-night

"I Will" ...

  • Mood: on top of the world...
  • Music: I Will, by the Beatles (look on my main page)

just got hame frae wurk
had to take a wee minute to share

one of my patients
was one hundred and one years old
she still loves life and
we had a great wee blether

as I was setting up the room
I found a wee bear,
was told it played her favorite song

when the time was right
I squeezed the paw
it sang a song

every hair on my body stood up
my insides suddenly felt full
as I heard the words, and
recognized the tune

my wee patient said
she didn't remember all the words
(and the bear only sang half of them)
I said, listen to this, and
squeezed the paw again

when the bear finished singing
I started, and completed the song
when I was done
I saw a tear in her eye
and no doubt,
she saw the same in mine

it was brilliant being able to sing
"I Will"

songs are absolutely wonderful
and a BIG part of my life
I fall asleep to music
get woke up by music
listen to it at the bus stop
and more often than not
you'll find me running to a few good tunes

what ever it is you enjoy
I hope you make the best of it
enjoy life
live it

as always
love

I bow and say thank you

  • Mood: in wonder of life

imagine if you can
a thing that you love doing

imagine being allowed to do this thing every day
wouldn't that be a wonderful world

now, if you dare
imagine being paid to do what you love
Gawd, isn't the world a beautiful place to be

this describes my world
it's a wonderous place to be
with smells - tastes and deeds that
continually evoke bliss

ohhh ohhh wait a minute
how does this wee world get better??

yesterday
for my efforts
for loving what I do
for doing what I love

the military promoted me
my new rank is
Master Corporal

medals - promotions - pay raises
the chance to help people and learn
new things every day

my life is good
very good

I heard a song the other day that says
"and I owe it all to you"

there is no, one "you" in my life
it has been a series of most excellent decsions
prompted and supported by all the people in my circle
so to family and friends
to the wonderful people in my life
I bow and say thank you

for now
it's off to work

enjoy your day
enjoy your life

love

now there was (and is) a smile

  • Mood: way happy ...

Christmas is coming

the outstanding question right now
is what do I want for a gift

the answer is always
can't think of anything that I need or want
that I don't have

then a reminder came in the mail
my acceptance card for
the Boston Marathon in '07

now there was (and is) a smile

to be given the opportunity to
participate in this marathon is
absolutely wonderful

so once again
I thank everyone who helped
in one way or another
to get me to this point

to all of you who gave
words of encouragement
and those who smiled along the way

it's been a good year
and this wee card,
just a token of what 2006 was all about

smile as I do
celebrate life ...

if there was a song for today
I would sing,

we are peacekeepers around the world

  • Mood: I remember -

11th of Nov
today is
Rememberence Day

a lot of people seem to forget
the wars gone by
and the conflicts we are engaged in today
they slight our military in times of peace

we (the military)
stand by and give aid in time
of emergency, near and far
we are peacekeepers around the world
and presently engaged in war in the middle east
some say "not our war"
but rest assured our soldiers are there
and dying for the cause

today I went to Rememberence Day ceremonies
here in Dartmouth - down at Sullivans Pond
some 3 - 5000 people gathered to remember

I hope that you
spent a moment to
remember also

have a good one

love you

all my running medals disappeared

  • Mood: pleasantly pleased with me and mine ....

I don't like re-visiting the past
there are things there
that just aren't worth it

but sometimes to reflect
is a good thing
to compare then and now
gives me a sense
that life is going in the right direction

a few years ago
all my running medals disappeared
the police asked if I wanted to press charges

I answered,
"No - if I want a medal on my wall,
I'll go out and run a race"

the pictures below
are medals which I have recieved
for my running over the past 3 years
this race season is all but over
so I spend this minute thinking
back and enjoying my accomplishments

50 years old
and
in my prime

it's with a big smile
that I say to you
"never admit defeat
move in one direction - with a purpose"

love

John

thank you to Mary Catherine
for the Boston medal;

thank you, to you,
one and all
for your part of
me and mine
